Practice Plans
Generate practice sessions grounded in your philosophy, roster, and schedule.
The Practice Planner (/practice) is the most-used surface in BenchOS. Every plan is generated by your full coaching staff — Coach X (offense), Coach Shield (defense), Coach Bloom (player development), Coach Iron (strength & conditioning) — and synthesized by Coach Prime into a unified session.
Creating a plan
From the Practice Planner index, click New Plan. The form has the following inputs:
- Practice Date — defaults to the next open slot on your schedule
- Practice Type — Full Practice, Shootaround, Walkthrough, or Game Day Prep
- Duration — slider, 30–120 minutes in 15-minute increments (default 90)
- Energy Level — Pre-Game, Regular, or Recovery (auto-set based on the next game on your schedule)
- Focus Areas — multi-select: Offense, Defense, Transition, Shooting, Rebounding, Conditioning, Player Development, Team Chemistry, Situations, Press, Scouting Prep
- Include Warm-Up — checkbox (default on)
- Number of Segments — how many time blocks to plan (default 4)
- Coach Notes — free text for anything else you want the staff to consider
- Link to Schedule Event — optional; ties the plan to a specific calendar event
Two ways to create:
- Generate with AI — kicks off the AI pipeline. The form closes and you'll be returned to the Practice Planner index, where a "Generating…" card shows progress while the specialists work and Coach Prime synthesizes the final plan. When it's ready, click in to view it.
- Build it yourself — skips generation and creates an empty plan you fill in directly in the editor. Useful when you'd rather draft from scratch or already know exactly what you want.
What's in a plan
Every generated plan includes:
- Plan metadata — date, type, duration, energy, focus areas (all editable inline)
- Warm-Up — if enabled: name, duration, drills, coaching cues
- Numbered segments — each with a name, duration, drills, coaching points, and links to plays/drills from your library
- Timeline — visual of how time is allocated across the session
- Play & Drill appendix — printable references for everything cited in the plan
- Coach's Notes — your space for additional context
- Post-Practice Feedback — rating (1–5) plus "what went well" and "what to improve"
Editing
The plan view doubles as the editor. Toggle Edit to modify any section — drills, durations, coaching cues, segment order. Changes save automatically. Drag handles let you reorder segments and drills.
Other things you can do
- Clone an existing plan as a starting point for a new one
- Archive plans you no longer need (soft delete; recoverable)
- Favorite a plan to pin it for quick access
- Print uses a clean print stylesheet — landscape, no nav, sized for a clipboard
- Link to Schedule ties an existing plan to a calendar event after the fact
Recording feedback
After a practice, fill in the post-practice feedback at the bottom of the plan. That feedback feeds the weekly report and informs future practice generations — Coach Prime sees what you said worked and what didn't.
